A large vigorous, narrowly columnar deciduous tree with upright branches and bright green ovate leaves. Crimson male catkins appear in early spring before the leaves open.

Soil: Will grow in most soils except waterlogged. Prefers fertile, moist but well drained.

Aspect: Full sun. Exposed or sheltered.

Suitable Locations: Parks, coastal sites, verges and avenues.
