A fast growing, large deciduous tree with stout shoots and large sticky buds. The long stalked leaves have between 5 and 7 leaflets, each growing up to 30cm long, and can turn yellow in autumn. The large clusters of white flowers are blotched with red and open in late spring. The flowers are followed by rounded very spiny fruits (conkers).

Soil: Thrive in all moist, well drained soil.

Aspect: Full sun or part shade.

Suitable Locations: Large gardens, avenues, parkland.

Other: Pollution resistant.
