A medium sized, fast growing tree of graceful habit. In spring it is festooned with 10-15cm long male catkins. The leaves are large, regularly lobed and glaucous underneath.

Soil: Wet, acidic soil. Will grow in poorly fertile soil.

Suitable Locations: Exposed and windy area, coastal sites.
