Cercis siliquastrum – Judas Tree
A medium sized, spreading deciduous tree often branching low down, with broad rounded leaves deeply heart shaped at the base. Pea-like flowers, pink to deep pink, sometimes white open in clusters before or as the leaves emerge in spring. The flowers are occasionally seen in dense bunches on the main trunks, and these are followed by flattened pods that turn from pink to brown.
Soil: Most soils, including very dry ones.
Aspect: Full sun or part shade.
Suitable Locations: Large gardens.
Other: Drought resistant.
