Davidia involucrata – Hankerchief Tree
A medium sized deciduous tree, conical when young but later spreading with broadly heart-shaped leaves ending in a tapered point. The leaves are bright green above, densely covered in short hairs beneath on mature trees. The rounded heads of small flowers in late spring have purple anthers and are surrounded by two large and conspicuous, unequal white bracts.
Soil: Acid, alkaline or neutral. Chalk, clay, sand or loam.
Aspect: Sheltered, full sun or part shade.
