Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’ – Purple Beech
A large, upright deciduous tree with a broad, spreading crown. Elliptic leaves that emerge in spring coloured black/red, turning purple-green and then to russet brown in autumn. It has small green flowers, followed by bristly fruits.
Soil: Grows well in most well drained soils except heavy clay or light sand.
Aspect: Full sun or part shade.
Suitable Locations: Useful for hedging and screening, parks and avenues. It thrives almost anywhere except exposed or coastal areas.
