Juglans nigra – Black Walnut
A large, fast growing deciduous tree of spreading habit that has large dark green, aromatic leaves with up to 23 taper-pointed leaflets. The pendulous green, male catkins open in late spring to early summer, while the small female flowers develop into rounded, edible nuts enclosed in a green husk.
Soil: Grows well in any well drained soil, but it thrives in deep loam.
Aspect: Full sun.
Suitable Locations: Exposed or sheltered. Avenues and parklands.
