Juglans regia
A large deciduous tree with distinctive pale grey bark and large aromatic leaves, bronze coloured when young, divided up into 5-9 glossy green leaflets. Green male flowers open in pendulous catkins in late spring to early summer, and the female flowers ripen to edible nuts confined in a green husk.
Soil: Thrives on most soils, but does not favour waterlogged.
Aspect: Full sun.
