Liquidambar styraciflua
A large deciduous tree of conical habit, whose shoots often have conspicuous, corky wings and bare bold, glossy green, deeply lobed, maple-like leaves, each normally with 5 pointed lobes. The leaves turn to brilliant shades of orange, yellow, red and purple over a long period in autumn. The inconspicuous yellow green flowers open in late spring, followed by spherical pendulous fruit clusters.
Soil: Well drained, lime free soil.
Aspect: Full sun or part shade.
Suitable Locations: Sheltered or exposed. Urban sites, gardens, avenues, parks and woodlands.
