Quercus robur – English Oak
A large, wide spreading deciduous tree developing a broad crown. The dark green leaves are blue-green beneath, have 3 to 6 rounded lobes on each side and are borne on very short stalks, turning reddish-brown in autumn. Inconspicuous yellow-green catkins appear among the yioung leaves, followed by acorns on stalks.
Soil: Will grow best on deep moist fertile loamy soils; however it will cope with almost any conditions.
Aspect: Full sun or part shade.
Suitable Locations: Woodlands, avenues, parks and large estates.
