A large, very fast growing, deciduous tree with a rounded, spreading habit. The bold leaves are shallowly cut into several lobes, each ending in a bristle-tipped tooth. Dark matt green above and usually blue-green beneath, they turn red/brown in autumn. Inconspicuous, greenish flowers appear in spring, followed by acorns.

Soil: Grows best in deep fertile, lime free soils. Acid or neutral.

Aspect: Full sun or part shade.
