Salix cinerea – Grey Willow/Common Sallow
A spreading, deciduous shrub or small tree with densely hairy young shoots and spirally arranged, glossy dark grey-green leaves, hairy beneath. Silvery-yellow male catkins and grey-green female catkins are borne on separate plants in early spring before or as the leaves emerge.
Soil: Thrives in moist or wet, acidic or neutral soils.
Aspect: Full sun.
Suitable Locations: Woodland, exposed sites, damp sites, coastal and wildlife gardens.
