Salix viminalis – Common Osier Willow
A large, fast growing shrub or small tree with dense, flexible stems that forms an upright habit. Long, slender green leaves open following the appearance of yellow-green catkins in spring. The young stems are yellow in spring and male and female catkins appear on separate plants. Grows best in wet soil.
Soil: Thrive in wet and boggy soils.
Aspect: Full sun.
Suitable Locations: Waterside plantings, damp woodlands, re-claimed industrial/contaminated sites.
