A large, vigorous deciduous tree with semi-erect branches, bright red shoots and large, heart-shaped dark green leaves. Clusters of small, fragrant yellowish flowers appear in summer. This tree is particularly striking when used for pleaching, as the young red shoots will be very attractive.

Soil: Grows well in any well drained, alkaline or neutral soil, avoiding cold, drying winds.

Aspect: Full sun or part shade.
